The piece, called The Carrot, is a sculpture that pays homage to a Danish myth that says that if you are attacked by a witch or have jaundice, you should urinate in a hollow carrot and hang it in the fireplace until it dries to regain your health.
For the realization of this sculpture, the artists put a real carrot through an MRI scanner to get the precise image, just as we used complex technology to study the inner structures, chemical components and possible healing properties of fruits and vegetables. SUPERFLEX reflects on how we have always looked to nature for treatments and cures. The mythical benefits of fruits and vegetables used to be discussed in prominent medical journals; today, these ideas are still passed down in communities and families, and information about home remedies is widely disseminated on the Internet. In the past and present, storytelling and folk medicine have proved to be complements to science.
