This representation of Quetzalcoatl is a model of a monumental sculpture that can be visited in the Unidad Independencia housing complex in Mexico City. Ortiz Monasterio made two versions of Quetzalcoatl; one anthropomorphic and the other, here present in the form of a feathered serpent in which we see the plastic ideals of Mexican nationalism incarnated, which sought to exalt the heritage of pre-Hispanic art and which renewed the sculptural language of a whole generation of artisans trained in the Escuela De Talla Directa Al Aire Libre in the first half of the twentieth century.
