"Sometimes the Chacmool is represented holding a bowl, which was filled with pulque or some other drink. The idea is that the reclining figure is a compositional problem, which has occurred in the language of sculpture because there is always much play around holes. A hole in a sculpture is always a revelation because it creates a topological situation where a different silhouette is revealed on the other side. In this small figure I was interested that you view it from one side and see a kind of abstract stone and then turn around again and you already identify some anthropomorphic features. It is a kind of meditation on the renewal of the language of sculpture that was achieved in modernity."
